Curriculum Vitae Detlef Seif

Born on 15 August 1962 in Euskirchen; lives in Weilerswist; Protestant; married; one child.

Obtained Abitur (higher-education entrance qualification) in 1982; completed compulsory basic military service from 1982 to 1984; studied law at the University of Bonn from 1984 to 1989; passed first state examination in law in 1990; passed second state examination in law in 1993; admitted to practice as a lawyer in 1993.

Member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) since October 1982; involved in party and cross¬party politics in various capacities, including as chairman of the Steinbach dam citizens' initiative in the late eighties and as a specialist on "human rights violations in the GDR" in the mid-eighties; has held various posts in the CDU; chairman of the Euskirchen county branch of the CDU since June 2009; deputy chairman of the Aachen district branch of the CDU since October 2009.

Member of the German Bundestag representing the Euskirchen - Rhein-Erft-Kreis II constituency since October 2009; EU Affairs Committee rapporteur on justice and home affairs, on relations to international organisations and to the United Kingdom and Malta. As a member of the Committee on Legal Affairs and Consumer Protection, serves as rapporteur on the law governing legal professions (lawyers, judges, notaries, etc.) and judicial staff, administration of justice, data protection and labour law.
